How do you become a Christian?

Being a Christian simply means . .

Giving your life over to Jesus Christ

Asking Jesus to forgive all your past mistakes,

Asking him to enter into your life

    Promising to follow him.

Once we give our lives over to Christ, we are . .

Transformed by his love and grace.

We can no longer continue to live in the same way—his presence in our lives can be seen in our actions, our words and our behavior.  We are changed for the better.  T

This does not mean . . .

We won’t make mistakes ever again—we are human—we will.

But it does mean that we will strive in our lives to follow the teachings of Jesus and to attempt to model his love, forgiveness and acceptance.

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church(USA) believes . . .

The Bible (Old and New Testaments) is the inspired and authoritative Word of God.

We trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to sustain us.

Jesus is both fully human and fully divine and that through Jesus we are offered forgiveness of sins.  We believe in the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus and that he will come again.

Worship is essential for human life.

Believe in the power of prayer to change and heal lives.

We believe that Christians describe God in terms of the Trinity—traditionally understood as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Christians admit sin and evil are a reality in our world and we need to be forgiven for our sins and mistakes.

All Christians have some basic beliefs in common.  Followers of Christ all believe in the existence of God as Creator and maker of our universe.

What is unique about Presbyterians?

The word Presbyterian comes from the Greek word meaning elder.  Presbyterian Churches are governed by men and women known as elders who are elected by the members of the congregation.  Elders are ordained and can serve on all levels of our government.  The Constitution of the Presbyterian Church has much in common with the Constitution of the United States.  The Presbyterian Church believes that we are reformed but always being reformed by God—God is not finished with us yet!
